Devonshire

Suburban   Coastal

Devonshire moves at a Bermudian pace that feels close to the water even when you are inland: scooters humming past stone walls, schoolchildren in crisp uniforms, and the salt air drifting up from the South Shore. The parish sits between Hamilton and Paget, so a day here can start with coffee near the city and end on a cliff path above the Atlantic. The best-known stop is the Bermuda Botanical Gardens on South Road, where the paths open onto palms, orchids, and the Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art. A few minutes away, the Arboretum gives you a quieter walk through tall trees and open lawns, while the nearby Bermuda National Trust properties in the parish add a sense of place without feeling staged. For a more local rhythm, follow Middle Road and South Road rather than rushing through them. You will pass Devonshire Bay, where the shoreline feels raw and wind-brushed, and you can cut toward the Railway Trail for a longer walk or bike ride through old rail corridors and residential stretches. The parish also sits close to the action in Hamilton, so it works well as a base if you want easy access to Front Street, the ferry terminal, and the restaurants around Church Street without sleeping in the middle of the traffic. In the evening, the light drops fast, the roads quiet down, and Devonshire feels like a place where people head home early, windows open, sea breeze coming through.
