St. John's

Urban   Coastal   Beaches

The first thing you notice in St. John's is the harbor light: ferries sliding in, fishing boats rocking near the quays, and the steep streets climbing away from the water. Start at the St. John's Harbour waterfront, then walk up to Redcliffe Quay for the old stone buildings, small shops, and a slower pace than the cruise-terminal edge of town. If you want the city’s real rhythm, follow the road toward Heritage Quay, then keep going inland where the market stalls, minibuses, and office traffic give you the weekday version of Antigua. For a proper look at the island’s story, head to the Museum of Antigua and Barbuda in the old courthouse on Long Street, then continue to St. John’s Cathedral on Upper St. John’s Street, where the twin towers rise above the city. Fort James, at the mouth of the harbor, gives you a wide sweep over Deep Bay and the cruise channel, while Dickenson Bay sits a short drive north for a long beach walk and a swim. If you have time for one local meal, sit down at Papa Zouk on Old Parham Road for seafood, or grab a plate near the Public Market and watch the city move around you.
