Waterford

Urban   Coastal   Beaches   Riverfront

Waterford hits you with a particular kind of energy—the River Suir cuts through the city center, and you feel the weight of nearly a thousand years of Viking and Norman settlement in the medieval streets. The Waterfront is where locals actually spend time, not just tourists; the quays along the river have a working-port feel mixed with cafés and galleries. Walk through the Medieval Museum on the Mall, then head to Reginald's Tower, the iconic Norman keep that dominates the skyline—it's squat, imposing, and genuinely impressive up close. The city center clusters around Barronstrand Street and The Mall, where independent shops and restaurants sit alongside chain stores. Dunmore East, a fishing village just south, offers a completely different pace if you want to escape the city proper. The Waterford Greenway, a 46-kilometer cycling and walking trail following an old railway line, connects the city to Dungarvan and gives you a sense of the wider region's landscape without needing a car.
