The Big Buddha statue on Nakkerd Hill commands views across the entire island and the Andaman Sea beyond—the drive up winds through rubber plantations and local neighborhoods where you'll see how most Phuketians actually live, away from the tourist zones. Phang Nga Bay, reachable by speedboat in 45 minutes, offers limestone karsts and sea caves that justify the day trip, though the crowds at James Bond Island can be suffocating during peak season.
