Abaco Islands

Country   Coastal   Beaches

Before the hurricanes of 2019, Abaco’s rhythm was set by ferry wakes, bonefishing skiffs, and the pastel storefronts of Marsh Harbour and Hope Town. The islands are still rebuilding in places, but that history is visible everywhere: in the restored Elbow Reef Lighthouse on Elbow Cay, in the quiet lanes of Hope Town, and in the working docks where boats still outnumber cars. Start in Marsh Harbour, where the ferry terminal, the airport, and the main road make it the practical hub, then head east to Hope Town on Elbow Cay for the red-and-white lighthouse, the tiny streets, and the harbor views from Wyannie Malone Museum. On Green Turtle Cay, New Plymouth feels like a pocket-sized settlement with Loyalist-era roots, while Treasure Cay draws beachgoers to its long curve of pale sand and the Treasure Cay Golf & Beach Resort area. For a more local day, cross to Man-O-War Cay for boatbuilding yards and the narrow lanes that still feel shaped by hand tools, not traffic.
