What do expats find most challenging?

Answer this Question

We asked expats and digital nomads what they find the most challenging about the local culture in Hanoi. They wrote...

"One of the most challenging aspects of the local culture for expats in Hanoi is the language barrier. Many locals speak only Vietnamese, making it difficult for expats to communicate and build relationships with the local community. Additionally, the local customs and etiquette can be difficult to navigate for those unfamiliar with the culture. For example, it is important to show respect to elders and to avoid public displays of affection. Finally, the traffic in Hanoi can be chaotic and overwhelming for expats, as the roads are often congested and the rules of the road are not always followed," remarked another expat who made the move to Hanoi, Vietnam.
